SCLIVE, unidentified Domesday Book manor in Boldre hundred
Uninterpreted. The second part seems to be Old English 'clif'='cliff'. Earlier identifications with HIGHCLIFFE in Christchurch and 'Muscliff' in Holdenhurst both place 'Sclive' in the wrong hundred. If it was near the Bishop of Winchester's other land in the Domesday Book Boldre hundred, we would need to look to 'Inchmery House' just west of Lepe in Exbury, the only place where there is a modern sea cliff however low. This name is not found before 1609 'Inchmary'.
